PDO Thread Lift London

A PDO thread lift gently lifts and tightens mild to moderate sagging, without surgery or general anaesthetic. At EliteSkin, every thread lift is planned and carried out by a GMC-registered doctor at Marble Arch Medical Centre, 217 Edgware Road, London W2.
What Is a PDO Thread Lift?
PDO (polydioxanone) threads are fine, dissolvable medical threads, the same material used in surgical stitches for decades. They are placed under the skin with a fine needle or blunt cannula. Barbed (cog) threads lift and hold the tissue, while smooth (mono) threads stimulate new collagen. The threads dissolve naturally over about six months, leaving firmer, tighter skin.

How Does Treatment Work?
The threads are placed under the skin through tiny entry points, then gently pulled to lift the tissue. As they dissolve, your body builds new collagen around them, so the skin keeps tightening for several weeks.
1. Consultation
Your doctor assesses your skin, face shape and medical history, and agrees a plan. Your consultation is free.
2. Preparation
The area is cleaned, marked and numbed with local anaesthetic.
3. Treatment
Threads are placed with a fine cannula and positioned to lift. Most treatments take 30–60 minutes.
4. Aftercare
Most people go back to normal life within a day or two. We review your result at 2–4 weeks.

Is a Thread Lift the Same as a Facelift?
No. A thread lift gives a modest, natural lift with little downtime, but it does not remove skin. Surgery gives a bigger, longer-lasting change. Your doctor will tell you honestly which suits you.
When Will I See Results, and How Long Do They Last?
You will see some lift straight away. Results keep improving for 2–3 months as collagen builds, and usually last 12–18 months.
Many patients book a top-up treatment once a year.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common for 3–7 days. Slight puckering or dimpling at entry points usually settles within two weeks.
Less common risks include asymmetry, visible threads, infection or a thread working loose, which your doctor can treat.
Why Choose a Doctor-Led Clinic for Thread Lifts?
Thread lifts work in the deeper layers of the face, close to nerves and blood vessels.
- A doctor understands facial anatomy and can manage any complication
- A doctor can prescribe treatment if it is ever needed
At EliteSkin, every thread lift is performed by a GMC-registered doctor.
Can Threads Be Combined With Other Treatments?
Yes. Threads lift the skin, while fillers restore lost volume and skin boosters improve texture. Many patients combine them for a more complete result, and your doctor will plan the order and timing. Before your appointment:
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
- Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for a few days, unless your GP has prescribed them
- Avoid fish oil and vitamin E supplements for a week
- Arrive with clean skin and no make-up
During your free consultation, your doctor will explain whether a thread lift is right for you.
Aftercare: The First Two Weeks
Sleep on your back with your head raised for 3 nights, and avoid wide yawning, chewing gum, facial massage, saunas and hard exercise for two weeks. Call us if you notice increasing pain, redness, heat or fever. This page is general information and does not replace medical advice. Reviewed by Dr Katerina Konstantinou.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a PDO thread lift?
A non-surgical treatment that lifts sagging skin with fine dissolvable threads placed under the skin. It also stimulates new collagen.
How long does a PDO thread lift last?
Usually 12–18 months. The threads dissolve in about six months, but the collagen they trigger keeps the skin firmer for longer.
Does a thread lift hurt?
The area is numbed with local anaesthetic, so most people feel only pressure and mild tugging.
How long is the recovery?
Most people return to work within 1–2 days. Swelling and bruising usually settle within a week.
Am I a good candidate for a thread lift?
Thread lifts suit mild to moderate sagging, often from the mid-30s to 60s. Heavy sagging may be better treated with surgery.
Are PDO threads safe?
Yes, when performed by a qualified doctor. PDO has been used in surgical stitches for decades and dissolves completely.
Can I combine threads with fillers?
Yes. Threads lift, fillers restore volume. Your doctor will plan the order and timing.
